A tailored shirt fixes the three things a bought shirt gets wrong on most people: collar height, sleeve length and how much room is left through the body. All three are chosen before the cloth is cut. The shop sets the date at the order, and the pattern is kept for the next one.
01
What you choose before cutting
Five things are chosen before a shirt is cut:
- Collar — shape, height and spread.
- Cuff — button or link, single or double, and its depth.
- Cloth — from the books on the table.
- Body shape — how much is taken out through the waist and back.
- Pocket or no pocket, and the placket.
The three common collar shapes differ like this:
| Collar | What it does | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Point | Narrow, upright | A wider face; works with or without a tie |
| Spread | Opens out to the shoulder | A narrower face; needs a tie to look intentional |
| Button-down | Points fastened to the shirt | Open-necked wear; the least formal |
Every collar and cuff shape is set out in the same shirt decisions.
Collar
Collar height is the measurement nobody thinks about and everybody notices. Too low and the shirt disappears under a jacket; too high and it pushes at the neck all day. Bring a shirt whose collar you already like and it can be copied exactly.
Cuff
Button or link, single or double, and how deep it sits. The one that matters in practice is depth against your wrist: a cuff that rides over the hand is the commonest fault in a bought shirt and it is fixed here at the order, not afterwards.
Cloth
Cloth comes from the books on the table — Sirano, Cavani, Luiciano and Lord & Taylor. For a shirt in Bangkok, weave matters as much as colour. Suit and shirt fabrics are also on the site, 120 of them photographed close up, so you can shortlist by weight and colour and send the list on WhatsApp before you come in.

02
Cloth for the heat
A shirt is the layer against your skin, so weave does more work here than anywhere else on the garment list. An open weave moves air and creases sooner; a tight weave holds its line through a working day and is warmer for it. Pale colours hide less than people expect in this climate, and mid-tones are the practical answer. Handle the cloth on the table, which tells you more in ten seconds than a number would.

03
How long it takes
Two to three days once the pattern is cut, the same as a suit; the shop confirms the date at the order against what else is on the bench. You stay fully clothed for the measuring. If you are flying out, say so at the order and you will be told plainly what is possible.

04
Ordering more than one
The pattern is kept after the first shirt, which changes the arithmetic on everything afterwards. A second and third shirt start at the cloth rather than the tape measure, so ordering several at once is the cheapest and fastest version of this — and returning in a year costs you one message rather than another appointment. If your body changes, the pattern is corrected rather than redrawn.

05
Copying a shirt you already own
If you own a shirt that fits, bring it. A pattern taken off a garment is more exact than a pattern taken off a conversation, because the shirt answers questions you would not know to ask. The original is not cut up and it comes back to you.
- Sending a garment to be copied — what transfers from the original, and what does not.
- A suit cut to your own pattern — the same method, in tailoring.
- Wedding suits for the groom and groomsmen — with shirts cut to match.
- Black tie — where the shirt is the formal half.
- The tailor’s shop and how to reach it — BTS National Stadium, exits 3 and 4.

Questions people ask
- How long does a tailored shirt take?
- The shop sets the date at the order, against what else is on the bench that week. Ask at the order which date applies to your shirt. If you are flying out soon, say so at the order and you will get a straight answer. Ordering two or three at once costs almost no extra time once the pattern exists, which is worth knowing if you are on a short trip.
- What is the minimum order?
- One. A single shirt is a normal order here and it is a sensible way to test the fit before committing to several. Because the pattern is kept afterwards, a second shirt ordered later starts at the cloth rather than at the tape measure, so nothing is lost by beginning with one. A single shirt is also the cheapest way to find out whether the collar height and the body shape suit you before committing to a set.
- Can you copy a shirt I already own?
- Yes, and it is the most reliable way to get the fit you want. A garment answers questions a conversation cannot, and the original is not cut up: the pattern is taken from it and it comes back to you. Bring it in, or send a photograph on WhatsApp first if you want an answer before you travel. You can also ask for the copy to correct the original rather than reproduce it, which is usually the better use of the visit. Bring it on the first visit rather than the second and the order is placed in one trip.
- What collar should I choose?
- Point for a wider face, spread for a narrower one, button-down if you wear shirts open-necked. Height matters more than shape and is the thing people forget: too low and the collar vanishes under a jacket, too high and it presses at the neck all day. Bring a shirt whose collar you like and it can be copied exactly. If you wear shirts open-necked most of the time, say so, because that changes the answer entirely.
- What cloth is best for Bangkok?
- Weave before colour. An open weave moves air and creases sooner; a tight weave holds its line through a working day and is warmer. Handle the cloth on the table. Ten seconds with your hand on it tells you more than a number would. Pale colours hide less than people expect in this climate, so mid-tones are the practical answer for anything worn through a working day. The books are on the table and going through them properly is time well spent.
- Do you keep my measurements?
- The pattern is kept, which is more useful than the measurements alone. A second order starts from it, and if your body changes the pattern is corrected rather than drawn again. That is what makes returning for a shirt a single message rather than a second appointment.
- Can a shirt be made with a different cuff for cufflinks?
- Yes. Single or double, button or link, and the depth set against your wrist. Depth is the one worth thinking about: a cuff that rides over the hand is the commonest fault in a bought shirt, and it is decided here at the order rather than corrected afterwards. A double cuff is two layers of cloth folded back at the wrist, which is noticeably warmer here than a single buttoned one. Say which you want at the order, since the cuff is built before the shirt is assembled.
- What does a tailored shirt cost?
- From 1,200 THB, and five shirts are 5,000 THB as a package. Ask in the shop or on WhatsApp and you have the exact figure for your cloth before anything is cut. Cloth is the largest variable and the one you choose yourself, so handling the books is also how you move the number.

What a customer said
5 out of 5 stars
My entire family made suits and shirts with The Loft Tailors. Very good value and Mr Sun was very helpful with the whole process. The turnaround was extremely quick, and the shop is located at the station next to MBK which is really convenient. Will definitely return!
