01

What is made here for women

Four kinds of work are made here for women:

Suits

A women’s suit here is drafted rather than adapted. The pattern is drawn from your measurements, the cloth is cut to it, and the jacket is canvassed so it keeps its shape across the chest and shoulder. Trouser or skirt is your choice, and either can be made later from the same pattern.

Shirts and trousers

Shirts and trousers are made the same way and are often ordered on their own. Sleeve length, cuff, collar and rise are all decisions rather than defaults — the full list is on women’s shirts and trousers.

02

The fitting

At the first appointment you stay fully clothed throughout; measurements are taken over what you are wearing, which is why it is worth arriving in something close-fitting rather than bulky. After that there are two fittings on the garment itself, roughly a week apart. what a first fitting is like takes you through it step by step, including the question most people want answered before they walk in.

Who measures you

Ask on WhatsApp whether a woman on the team can take your measurements. It is a fair question and a common one. Ask before you travel — you will get a real answer, and it is better to have it in advance than at the door.

How long it takes

The garment takes two to three days once the pattern is cut, with two fittings on the garment itself. Ask on WhatsApp if you need a time for the measuring before you plan your day.

03

Choosing cloth

Cloth is chosen from the books on the table — Sirano, Cavani, Luiciano and Lord & Taylor — and the decision that matters most in Bangkok is weight rather than colour. Lighter cloth is cooler and creases sooner; heavier cloth holds a press and is warmer to wear. The useful way to judge weight is to handle the books. Weight is one of the few things about cloth an untrained hand judges correctly in seconds. That means coming in — at the tailor beside MBK — rather than choosing from a photograph.

Alterations and bridal

Alterations are ordinary work here and usually take two to three days — hems, waists, straps, linings, and taking a garment in or letting it out within the seam allowance. Bridal runs on its own timetable of two fittings with the first about three weeks before the day, which is set out on wedding dress alterations. If you are dressing for someone else’s wedding, wedding suits for the groom and groomsmen has the family timetable.

Dresses

Dresses are altered here regularly — hems, waists, straps and linings are the usual jobs. Bring the shoes you will wear with the dress, because a hem pinned over the wrong heel height is a hem that has to be done twice.

Wedding dress alterations

A wedding dress is altered over two fittings, the first about three weeks before the day. That is deliberate: a dress altered months ahead is altered to a body that may have changed by the wedding. Full details on wedding dress alterations.

What it costs

A suit starts from 6,000 THB, and from 12,000 to 22,000 THB in premium cloth. Trousers start from 2,000 THB and shirts from 1,200 THB; the cloth decides where in each range yours falls. Come in or send a photograph on WhatsApp and you get a figure before anything is cut — the same as for a suit cut to your own pattern and tuxedos and dinner suits. what sets the price explains what moves it.

Questions people ask

Do you make suits for women?
Yes, cut from a pattern drafted for your body rather than a men’s block resized. Jackets, trousers, skirts and shirts, by the same hands and the same method as the men’s tailoring, with two fittings as standard. Trousers on their own are a reasonable way to test the fit before committing to a suit. Skirt or trouser is your choice and either can be made later from the same pattern, so the first order does not lock you into the second.
Will a woman take my measurements?
Ask on WhatsApp before you book; it is often the question that decides it. You will get a real answer, and having it in advance is better than finding out at the door. Asking costs you a message and settles the thing most likely to decide whether the visit happens at all.
What happens at the first appointment?
Measuring, fully clothed, over what you are wearing. Then cloth from the books on the table, then the pattern is drafted. After that there are two fittings on the garment itself. Allow time for the cloth if you want to go through the books properly rather than pick quickly.
What should I wear to be measured?
Something close-fitting rather than bulky, because measurements are taken over your clothes. Bring the shoes you intend to wear with the finished garment, especially for trousers or a skirt, since hem and break are decided against a specific heel height and pinning them over the wrong shoe means doing the job twice. A thick jumper or a structured jacket becomes part of the measurement and has to be estimated back out of it, which is guesswork nobody needs.
How long does a women’s suit take?
Two to three days once the pattern is cut, plus the time between the two fittings. For a fixed date, work backwards: three weeks gives a comfortable run with both fittings a week apart. For an ordinary order with no deadline, most people are measured on one visit and fitted the following week.
Can I order trousers without a jacket?
Yes, and many people do. Trousers on their own are a normal order rather than a favour, and they are the sensible way to find out whether the fit and the finish suit you before committing to a suit. The pattern is kept afterwards, so a jacket ordered later starts from the cloth rather than the tape measure.
Do you alter women’s clothes bought elsewhere?
Yes, and most of what comes in for alteration was bought elsewhere. Hems, waists, straps and linings are ordinary work, usually two to three days. Taking in is easier than letting out, because letting out is limited by the seam allowance the original maker left. Send a photograph on WhatsApp and you will get an answer before you travel. Bring the shoes and, for a dress, the underwear you will wear with it, since both change where the garment sits and therefore what needs moving.
What does a women’s suit cost?
From 6,000 THB, and from 12,000 to 22,000 THB in premium cloth. Trousers on their own start from 2,000 THB. Come in or send a photograph, and you have the exact figure before anything is cut. Cloth is the largest variable and the one you choose yourself, so handling the books is also how you move the figure.
