What a fitting is actually like
Who measures you, how long it takes, what you wear and what happens if something feels wrong. Answered before you book.

- Tailoring in Bangkok since 2011
- Suits from 6,000 THB

You stay fully clothed, standing still in a shop that is open to the street. Measurements are taken over what you are wearing. Nothing is removed, nothing is discussed about your body beyond the numbers, and you can stop at any point.
01
What happens, in order
A first fitting follows six steps, in this order:
- Say what you want made. A jacket, trousers, a shirt, or a copy of something you own.
- Choose cloth from the books on the table. This usually takes longer than the measuring does.
- Stand. You are measured standing naturally, not braced. A tape goes round chest, waist, hip, and along back, shoulder, sleeve and leg.
- Watch the numbers written down as they are taken; you can ask to see them.
- Say your preferences — where the trousers sit, how much shape in the jacket, sleeve and hem length against the shoes you brought.
- Agree a date for the first fitting.
Then you leave. The pattern is drafted from those numbers and the cloth is cut to it.

02
Who does the measuring
Whether a woman on the team can take your measurements is a question to ask on WhatsApp before you travel, and you will get a straight answer. It is asked often. If the answer matters to you, ask it first rather than last.

03
What to wear
Wear something close-fitting. Measurements are taken over your clothes, so a thick jumper or a heavy jacket becomes part of the measurement and has to be estimated out of it.
- Close-fitting top and trousers or a skirt. Anything you would wear under a coat.
- The shoes you will wear with the finished garment. Hem and break are set against a heel height.
- A garment that already fits you well, if you have one. It answers more questions than a conversation does.

04
If something feels wrong
Say so, at the time. That applies to the fit and to the appointment itself. A fitting is not a test you can fail: if a shoulder feels tight, if a waist is higher than you expected, if you would rather stop, all of those are ordinary things to say out loud and all of them are easier to deal with before the cloth is cut than after. The first fitting exists precisely so that corrections happen on a garment that is still basted together and can be taken apart. Nothing is finished at that point, and nothing you ask for is a complaint. For what is made here, see tailoring for women; for the separates, women’s shirts and trousers; for bridal, altering a wedding dress.

Questions people ask
- How long does a fitting take?
- It depends mostly on the cloth: going through the books properly is the longer part of the first visit. If you know what you want made and roughly what cloth you are after, it is quicker. Ask on WhatsApp if you need a firm time before you plan your day.
- Do I have to undress?
- No. Measurements are taken over your clothes, which is why it is worth arriving in something close-fitting rather than bulky. Nothing is removed and nothing is discussed about your body beyond the numbers being written down. You can ask to see those numbers at any point. If anything about the appointment itself feels wrong, say so at the time; stopping is an ordinary thing to do and not a complaint.
- Will a woman measure me?
- It is a reasonable question, it is asked often, and the shop will give you a straight answer.
- What should I wear?
- Something close-fitting: anything you would wear under a coat. A thick jumper becomes part of the measurement and has to be estimated back out of it. Bring the shoes you intend to wear with the finished garment, because hem length and trouser break are set against a specific heel height rather than an average one. Bring a garment that already fits you well if you own one, because it answers questions a conversation struggles with.
- What is actually measured?
- Chest, waist and hip around; back, shoulder, sleeve and leg along. Alongside the numbers, your preferences are recorded: where trousers should sit, how much shape you want in a jacket, sleeve and hem length against your shoes. The preferences matter as much as the measurements, and they are the part people forget to state.
- Can I bring a garment that already fits?
- Yes, and it is the single most useful thing you can bring. A garment answers questions a conversation struggles with, and it lets us point out exactly where the original was cut in a way we would change, so you can decide whether you want a copy or an improvement on it.
- What if I do not like how it feels at the fitting?
- Say so at the time. The first fitting is on a garment still basted together with temporary stitches, which exists precisely so that things can be taken apart and moved. A tight shoulder or a waist sitting higher than you expected is an ordinary thing to raise, not a complaint, and it is far easier to fix then than after finishing.
- Do I need an appointment?
- No. The shop is open 10am to 9pm every day at BTS National Stadium, exits 3 and 4, and you can walk in. Messaging first is still worth doing if you want to ask something before you travel, or if you are coming with several people and would rather not wait.
