Bespoke suits
Your pattern, and why it is kept
The paper pattern cut to your measurements is kept after the first suit. The second order needs no measuring.

Every bespoke suit cut from your pattern starts from the same sheet of paper. Here is what is on that pattern, and why the shop keeps it.
01
What a pattern is
A set of paper shapes drawn from your measurements — front, back, sleeve, collar, trouser — that the cloth is cut around. It is not a list of numbers. It carries how you stand, which shoulder sits lower, how much room you asked for through the waist, and every correction made at your fittings. That is why it is worth more than the measurements it started from.
A pattern already on file is what makes a compressed order possible at all: ordering on a stopover.

02
Why it is kept
Because the expensive part of a bespoke suit is the drafting and the fitting, not the sewing, and both of those are already done. A second suit starts at the cloth. It also means a correction survives: if a sleeve was half an inch long on the first suit and was fixed, the second one is right the first time rather than right after another fitting.
A first order still runs the full schedule before there is a pattern to keep — how long the work takes.
The measurements a pattern is drafted from do not have to be taken in the shop: measurement without coming in covers what a visit involves.

03
Ordering again from anywhere
This is the case where a remote order genuinely works, because the pattern has already been proved on your body. Message the shop with the cloth and what you want made. Ask the shop how long your pattern is kept, particularly if it has been a while. ordering from abroad sets out which situations work and which are a real risk.
- Confirm the pattern is still held, and say roughly when you were last measured.
- Choose the cloth — by name from the books if you know them, by photograph and description if you do not.
- Agree delivery before the cloth is cut: where it is going, how, and what happens if the fit needs correcting at your end.

04
When your size changes
The pattern is corrected rather than redrawn, which is quicker and cheaper than starting again. Bring yourself in and be re-measured; the changes are applied to what is already there. The same logic applies to the suits you already own: a garment cut to your pattern can be altered back towards you with more confidence than a bought one, because there is something to alter it against. resizing a suit you already own covers how far that goes in practice.

Questions people ask
- What is a pattern?
- A set of paper shapes drawn from your measurements, front, back, sleeve, collar and trouser, that the cloth is cut around. A pattern is not a measurement list. It carries how you stand, which shoulder sits lower, how much room you asked for, and every correction made at your fittings. That is why it is worth more than the measurements it started from, and why a second suit begins somewhere quite different from the first.
- Do you keep my pattern?
- Yes, that is the point of drafting one. The expensive part of a bespoke suit is the drafting and the fitting, and both are already done, so a second suit starts at the cloth. A correction survives too: a sleeve that was half an inch long on the first suit is right first time on the second. That is the thing you are really buying on a first order.
- How long is it kept for?
- Ask the shop, particularly if it has been a while since your last order. Ask before you plan a repeat order around it, because the answer decides whether you are reordering or starting again.
- Can I order again without coming in?
- This is the case where ordering remotely genuinely works, because the pattern has already been proved on your body. Send the cloth choice and the garment over WhatsApp. If you have never been measured here, that is a different and much riskier proposition, and taking your own measurements sets out what is involved.
- What happens if I gain or lose weight?
- The pattern is corrected rather than redrawn, which is quicker and cheaper than starting again. Come in and be re-measured, and the changes are applied to what is already there. Your existing suits can often be altered back towards you with more confidence too, because there is something to alter them against.
- Can I have a copy of my pattern?
- Ask in the shop. The pattern is what makes a repeat order short. Practice varies between tailors, so it is worth asking rather than assuming either way.
- Does the pattern work for shirts and trousers too?
- Each garment has its own pattern, drafted from the same measuring session. So a jacket ordered later after a first pair of trousers still begins ahead of where it otherwise would, because you have already been measured. Your preferences are on record alongside the measurements, which is the part people forget: where the trousers sit, how much shape in the jacket.
- Is a pattern the same as made to measure?
- No, and it is the whole distinction. Made to measure adjusts an existing block in roughly your size. A drafted pattern starts from nothing and is drawn for one body. The word bespoke refers to that, not to the price. Asking which one you are being sold takes one sentence, and it is the single most useful question in this trade.

What a customer said

5 out of 5 stars
Had a very good experience having my first ever suit made by The Loft Tailors. Since we were just transiting via Bangkok during the start and end of our trip, wasn't sure if it was enough time to have a suit made. Turns out, it is possible with the Loft Tailors! ☺️ They were very professional and transparent with the process. Also very easy to get in touch with and very responsive.
